It wasn't worth his life! People startle here and then they go back to their daily lives a few days after the blood is washed from the floor. We have to, or else we'd go insane.

Perhaps I'm the one who misunderstands. It simply seems an ongoing concern of many people here, to 'rock the boat' as it were.
